Private room in a shared apartment in the trendy neighborhood of Ixelles. The house is owned by an old Spanish couple and includes two other young housemates, each of them with their own room. The landlords often keep to themselves, but they are always polite and easy-going. They are used to renting rooms to other people and are very respectful of your privacy, and the two other tenants are also open and friendly.
The room is large and well lit, with plenty of storage space. It includes a desk, lamplights, a small camping couch, two mattresses, etc. Any conceivable need you might have will be met from day one. Your room is your own, and you can manage it as you see fit (within reasonable boundaries regarding respect for the other inhabitants and the property, of course). The price of the room includes utilities (water, gas, electricity, wifi, etc. ), which is invaluable at a time when prices are climbing so high.
It is a homely place, with all of the good and less good things it involves. On the one hand, you are expected to respect the space of the owners, who spend most of the time in the living room (hence inviting people over is hard). On the other, the house is already fully furnished and includes anything you might conceivably need (furniture, kitchenware, home appliances, towels, bedsheets... ). In addition to that, the fact that the landlords live in the same house mean that any problem that arises with the house gets solved immediately. The landlord himself, Jose, will personally take on most small issues.
Overall, this is a very good place in terms of price and quality. If you want to have a dynamic social life at home (invite people over, parties, etc. ) this is probably not the place for you. However, if you are looking for something stable and don't mind the more relaxed atmosphere, you will feel right at home like I did.
