Living in Woluwe, near the UCLouvain campus

In the east of Brussels, along metro line 1: Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, with the UCLouvain Woluwe campus and the Cliniques Saint-Luc, and Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, one of the greenest municipalities in the capital. Peace and quiet, greenery, and the centre a quarter of an hour away by metro.

The neighbourhood

Woluwe-Saint-Lambert is a residential municipality with many faces, from the Kapelleveld garden city to the Georges Henri shopping district. The UCLouvain Woluwe campus, some fifty hectares of greenery around Alma station, forms a small neighbourhood of its own, with its housing, its shops, the arte-fac cultural centre, the Mounier sports centre, a medicinal plant garden and the Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc.

Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, just to the south, is one of the greenest and most upmarket municipalities in Brussels: nearly a quarter of its area is woodland or parks, up to the Sonian Forest, and avenue de Tervueren lines up the Stoclet Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the Tram Museum. The Woluwe Shopping centre, opened in 1968, and the Stockel market, on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday mornings, cover your shopping.

Getting around

  • Metro line 1 serves the campus with three stations, Vandervelde, Alma and Crainhem, and puts the centre about a quarter of an hour away.
  • For the ULB and the VUB, trams 7 and 25 leave from Montgomery, and tram 8 links Roodebeek and Woluwe Shopping to the ULB. For the Plaine, take metro line 1 to Merode, then line 5.
  • Tram 81 links Montgomery to Flagey, and during the works, until spring 2027, it stops at Trinité. Bus 79 crosses the campus.
  • From Louvain-la-Neuve, the TEC express bus E12 arrives at Roodebeek: handy for UCLouvain students who travel between the two sites.
  • No train station in either municipality: for the train, get to Schuman or the centre by metro.
  • At night, the Noctis N05 (Alma, Kraainem) and N06 (Montgomery) run on Fridays and Saturdays.

Schools nearby

UCLouvain brings together here its faculties of medicine and dentistry, of pharmacy and biomedical sciences, and of public health, on avenue Mounier, with the Cliniques Saint-Luc. The Haute École Léonard de Vinci has its paramedical campus here (nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy...), and the ECAM engineering school is on promenade de l'Alma. EPHEC has its Woluwe campus on avenue Konrad Adenauer, and ICHEC is in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, near Montgomery.

Everyday life

There is no shortage of parks: the Woluwe park, the Malou park, and the Hof ter Musschen right next to the campus. The Sportcity swimming pool, in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, has a 50-metre pool, and Woluwe-Saint-Lambert's Poséidon pool is under works in 2026.

Housing

Here, the room in the owner's home weighs far more than elsewhere in Brussels, especially in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, where it is the leading type of housing. In Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, around the campus, flatshares and kots come first. UCLouvain also rents out its own kots, studios and kots-à-projet on the campus, reserved for its students: applications open in the spring. The Xior Alma residence is on the campus, a few minutes from Alma metro station.

For whom?

A good choice if you study at UCLouvain Woluwe, at Vinci, at ECAM, at EPHEC or at ICHEC, and if you are looking for peace and greenery, or a room in the owner's home.

Less suited if you want to live at the heart of the nightlife, or if you have classes at the Solbosch every day.
